An Average Movie-Goer’s Review

I love horror movies and if I’m going to watch them anyway, why not write an entertaining/funny review from the POV of an average movie-goer and not a professional critic.
Today we’re looking at 1990’s Child’s Play 2
Killer doll Chucky returns to Chicago in an attempt to find 8-year-old Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) and kill anyone in his way.
Is Child’s Play 2 Scary?
Child’s Play 2 can be a bit creepy at times but it has fewer scares than the first Child’s Play. The kills are a bit gorier, especially one towards the end but overall the movie won’t leave you scared.
Review:
Child’s Play 2 is good, it’s a bit of a step down from the first movie since it feels like a rehash of the first movie with all the same story beats except no cop this time. The acting is fine from the entire cast and the dialogue feels real. The story overall makes sense but one character’s action (which drives a main subplot) doesn’t make a lot of sense in retrospect, or at least we don’t see the justification for it.
My main issue with the story is the lack of any real character development. Except for maybe one character, you don’t learn a lot about the rest of the characters and when you’re watching a slasher film, you don’t care when the underdeveloped ones face danger.
Child’s Play 2 is still entertaining but it doesn’t have the suspense or the scares from the first film. Overall I do recommend Child’s Play 2 but really only if you’re a fan of Chucky and not necessarily a fan of horror movies.
