I love horror movies and if I’m going to watch them anyway, why not write an entertaining/funny review from the point of view of an average movie-goer and not a professional critic?

Today we’re looking at Netflix’s 2018 Malevolent

Based on Eva Konstantopoulos’ novel Hush, a group of fake paranormal hunters get more than they bargained for when they take a job at an actual haunted estate.

Is it Scary?

Malevolent leans more towards creepy suspense with lots of tension building scenes so I wouldn’t say it’s that scary but definitely a good movie to give you a few good scares.

Review:

Malevolent is a good movie, not just a good horror movie. There’s a lot of work done to build the character relationship between the two main characters since they’re related but in a slight negative, there isn’t a lot of character development for the rest of the characters.

In another slight negative, there is a plot line that’s dropped in the last half of the movie but it kind of makes sense why it’s dropped by the end. Though it just feels like something that didn’t necessarily have to be in the movie.

The story is pretty straightforward and there really isn’t any questions left open at the end which is usually a plus when the movie overall is not meant to be a thinker. There’s nothing worse than a movie that is straightforward but then throws in some wtf moments in the last ten minutes for no reason.

If you’re looking for a pretty good horror movie that’s entertaining, Malevolent would be a good choice.
