I love horror movies and if I’m going to watch them anyway, why not write an entertaining/funny review from the point of view of an average movie-goer and not a professional critic?

Today we’re looking at 2016’s The Boy

When a new live-in nanny job takes Greta (played by Lauren Cohan) to the Heelshires estate in the United Kingdom she soon discovers there may be supernatural presence in the house targeting her.

UPDATE: We recently reviewed/explained The Boy‘s 2020 sequel Brahms: The Boy 2 which you can read by clicking here.

Overall Review:

The Boy is a good film with good acting, a somewhat wild premise and story that actually works just don’t go in expecting a full on horror movie. It’s a lot tamer than that. It felt a bit like if an executive thought the first cut of the film wasn’t scary enough and forced the director to add some scenes.

It takes a few tonal shifts that would usually ruin a movie but, because of pacing, it actually works for the movie and helps you learn more about the characters. Lauren Cohan makes the movie since it is just her with a haunted doll for most of it.

It’s worth it to watch but don’t make it your main spooky time movie because you’ll be let down with the scares.
