An Average Movie-Goer’s Review

I love horror movies and if I’m going to watch them anyway, why not write an entertaining/funny review from the point of view of an average movie-goer and not a professional critic?
Today we’re looking at 2019’s Child’s Play
Child’s Play 2019 is a modern remake of the original Child’s Play from 1988. A disgruntled employee removes the safety settings from an artificial intelligence doll allowing it to terrorize a family in an attempt to it’s need for friendship.
Overall Review:
If a ten year old knife, that has never been sharpened, is bad and a Carbon Steel knife is the best knife than this movie is like a pretty good hammer that feels flimsy at first but ends up being pretty useful.
Since this is a remake and an average movie-goer review I’ll be ignoring making any comparisons to the original.
Child’s Play is better than I expected it to be. There’s definitely of a bit of Black Mirror-esque type story here that also works but detracts from some of the horror one might be expecting. If you’re hoping for a remake of the original Child’s Play, this is not that, it’s a totally different story with some surface level character details being the same. Still, it’s a pretty good movie.
Is it Scary?
There’s not much terror until the second half of the movie where it relies on jump scares. Since the movie embraces a more artificial intelligence premise the movie feels more like a science fiction film than a horror movie. Still recommend but as a lead up to Halloween but not scary enough for Halloween.
