An Average Movie-Goer’s Review
No spoilers! If you would like spoilers – check out the Spoiler post

I love horror movies and if I’m going to watch them anyway, why not write an entertaining/funny review from the POV of an average movie-goer and not a professional critic.
Today we’re looking at 2016’s Don’t Breathe
Don’t Breathe stars Jane Levy, was directed by Fede Álvarez, and has Sam Raimi as a producer. This is the exact same team as 2013’s Evil Dead, you can read our review/explanation for Evil Dead here.
Three thieves break into blind army vet’s home at night but their plan backfires when the army vet proves more dangerous than they imagined.
Is it Scary?
While Don’t Breathe won’t leave you terrified you will definitely be on the edge of your seat in suspense throughout most of it’s runtime. It’s extremely effective at creating those anxiety-laden moments that will have you scared shitless for the characters.
Review:
Don’t Breathe is one of the most suspenseful movies I’ve reviewed in awhile. The great acting, good dialogue, and pace of the movie works really well. Despite the moral ambiguity of all the main characters (since they’re thieves) you really worry about what’s going to happen to each of them.
The movie does sort of shoehorn in some motivation for some of the characters but it still works. While not all characters being likable each serve a purpose so you won’t end up feeling like anyone was wasted.
I only have one complaint and it’s a pretty big one but revealing it would be a spoiler. Luckily it happens at the start of the movie and doesn’t really detract from the how good the rest of the film is. Unfortunately it is a bit of tension killer but you might not feel that why.
Don’t Breathe isn’t perfect but almost everything works so well that it’s easily one of my top recommended movies for any horror fans.
